Intro
Arkenforge is also called “The Master’s Toolkit” It is ostensibly a map making tool first and a VTT second, but even so it still has a TON of features as a VTT. You can buy their asset packs or upload your own for use in the system and you retain the asset rights for later resale if that’s your thing. Master’s Toolkit is made in Unity, so it effortlessly ties in a lot of disparate video game tools like controls, audio, and lighting. It has been designed as a local-only VTT and in that respect has some caveats.
Cost
30 day Free Demo - The Arkenforge Master’s Toolkit launcher is free to download and try out.
💰 $35 - Fantasy and Sci-Fi packs are available to get you started with mapping. This is considered “purchasing” the software and is in the ‘Software’ category of the store.
💰 to 💰💰 - Asset packs vary widely in value as they are both Arkenforge and Community driven
Features
- Battlemaps
- ✅ Shared battlemaps with player- and GM-controlled tokens
- 💙 Advanced drawing capabilities - The tools are token based, but there are drawing tools with the tokens that manipulate how they are placed on the screen as you place them.
- 💙 Map-making tools is what Arkenforge is all about. You can create maps in this app for export to other VTTs with all of that VTT’s supported features baked in. Draw wall lines, windows, doors lights, etc.
- 💙 Maps can be animated, and this is done per token. So if you want just water ripples, you paint the animated water in the spot you want.
- Ruler
- ✅ Dynamic Fog of War only, no simple fog of war. But you can hide things in layers if you want.
- ✅ Dynamic Lighting
- 💙 For in person games, you can create a “player screen” if you are playing on a single computer with multiple outputs, so players can’t see your DM stuff!
- 💙 Real tokens + touchscreens = 😍
